Graphics and Environmental Decision Making

چکیده
S trangely, the combination of geographic information systems (GIS) and visualization remains sufficiently unexplored to warrant a special issue of CC&A. Both fields can claim acceptance, a base of solid theory and practice, and delivery of technology as software products to practitioners. The fields seem to complement one another. yet they have developed in parallel, with little interchange or interaction. From the perspective of a GIS researcher or practitioner. GIS has traditionally emphasized visualizing spatial objects and phenomena. But for a long time people considered GIS synonomous with automated cartography. Only slowly has our view evolved to the wider interpretation of a GIS as a system built on spatial databases for many forms of analysis. Nonetheless, while some people have adopted presentations such as perspective views of terrain, GIS as a field has focused on delivering traditional cartographic presentations. Visualization’s strength in areas such as color perception and surface rendering remain largely untapped in GIS. Why were these fields so slow to exhange ideas? There are many plausible reasons. To us, the most likely reason is the relative immaturity of both fields, particularly in the integration of their technologies into usable systems that address difficult realworld problems. Typically, a practitioner or researcher in either field has a closed system, built to serve special needs and able to link with other systems only clumsily, in a largely ad hoc way. Second, to a great extent, clashes on issues such as paradigms or representations are barriers. Nonetheless, some important applications demand the combination of GIS and visualization. and these applications might Philip K. Robertson and David J. Abel Cm0 Division of information Technology

Smog, Cognition and Real-World Decision-Making
Cognitive functioning is critical as in our daily life a host of real-world complex decisions in high-stakes markets have to be made. The decision-making process can be vulnerable to environmental stressors. Summarizing the growing economic and epidemiologic evidence linking air pollution, cognition performance and real-world decision-making, we first illustrate key physiological and psychologi...
متن کاملEmission and Environmental Goals in Decision Making Modeling for Load Dispatch
The main purpose of this research is to determine the generation quantity of each generator in a power system. In this way, not only will the electricity demanded by the system be supplied, but the cost of fuel along with the level of pollution can be minimized. Obviously, calculation of the optimal layout of power plants with the aim of minimizing fuel costs and pollutants level contributes to...

متن کاملExclusionary Decision Making in Tehran Metropolitan Region- Complexity, Self organization and Power of Action
Viewing urban areas as webs of complex, interwoven networks, this article aims to analyze the decision-making process and its outcomes in Tehran metropolitan region. To do so, first the theoretical basis of complexity in urban life and its implications for planning have been reviewed. Using the main notion of power of action i.e. agency, and through creating the network of actors and their rela...
متن کاملComparison and evaluation of three methods of multi attribute decision making methods in choosing the best plant species for environmental management (Case study: Chah Jam Erg)
Today, environmental crisis and loss of natural resources are the principle causes of the creation of environmental management systems. The optimal management of natural resources requires the assessment and classification of ecological and environmental potentials. Using this method, the abilities and restrictions of resources can be recognized, and their future trends can be predicted. Nebka ...
